A Playland of One's Own
Second Space Projects
17 - 25 March 2022
A Playland of One's Own is an exhibition of recent fine art graduates from the Victorian College of the Arts. A Playland of One's Own explores a collection of themes under the gaze of childhood. The class, taught by Dr Elizabeth Presa, created a space to discuss childhood, development, neurodiversity, disability and activism, expressing philosophical concepts through sculptures, paintings, prints and drawings. The works are a response to the critical writings of child psychoanalysts Gilles Deleuze and D. W. Winnicott and informed by philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Giorgio Agamben. The class also investigated topics of ethical concerns such as intergenerational trauma, juvenile incarceration, education and imagination.
Curated by Patricia Agus and Adina Kraus.
Including artists: Patricia Agus, Verity Crane, Tara Denny, Bing Han, Ava Hattam, Mikayla Holland, Madlena Kaindel, Adina Kraus, Madeline Lamb, Raisa Mclean, Elizabeth Presa, Fiona Shewan, Jordan Smart, Rosa Spring Voss, Alice Tsiavos, Keely Varmalis.
